Auge y declive del Distrito Textil de Trafalgar de Barcelona: un análisis espacio-temporal (1916-2016)

Resumen

El artículo examina los factores que influyen en la dinámica de las economías de aglomeración intraurbanas provenientes de los distritos textiles urbanos durante el siglo XX, centrándose en el Distrito Textil de Trafalgar (DTT) de Barcelona, especializado desde principios del siglo XX en la industria textil, de la confección y el sector mayorista –industria TCM. A través de una metodología mixta, los resultados señalan que a medida que la industria TCM se globaliza, las ventajas asociadas a las economías de localización intraurbanas se diluyen afectando a la estructura productiva del DTT y dependiendo de las economías de urbanización para su supervivencia. Sin embargo, en la actualidad el papel de las instituciones formales ha sido parte clave en la dilución de las ventajas asociadas a la centralidad urbana que beneficiaba la viabilidad del DTT comportando su progresivo declive. Este estudio contribuye a la literatura al analizar el papel de las economías de aglomeración intraurbanas desde una perspectiva microgeográfica e histórica en distritos textiles urbanos, los cuales han recibido escasa atención en el ámbito nacional.
